Setting Up Email on Apple Mail (macOS)

Step 1: Open Apple Mail

  • Open the Apple Mail application on your macOS laptop. If you're opening it for the first time, you may automatically be prompted to add an email account.

Step 2: Add Account

  • If the application didn't automatically prompt you, go to Mail in the menu bar at the top-left corner, then choose Preferences.

Step 3: Account Preferences

  • In the Preferences window, go to the Accounts tab and click the + button at the bottom to add a new account.

Step 4: Choose Account Type

  • You'll be asked to choose a Mail account provider. Scroll down and choose Other Mail Account, then click Continue.

Step 5: Enter Account Information

  • Name: Your Name

  • Email Address: yourname@youremail.com

  • Password: Your Password

  • Click Sign In.

Step 6: Unable to Verify

  • Don't worry if you see an Unable to verify account name or password error. This is expected. You'll need to enter the server details manually.

Step 7: Enter Server Information

  • Incoming Mail Server: imap.youremail.com

  • Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.youremail.com

  • Click Sign In.

Step 8: Server Settings

  • Apple Mail may prompt you to confirm the server settings. Make sure they are as follows:

    • Incoming Server: imap.youremail.com

    • Incoming Port: 993

    • Use SSL: Checked

    • Outgoing Server: smtp.youremail.com

    • Outgoing Port: 465

    • Use SSL: Checked

Step 9: Account Summary

  • Review the account settings to ensure everything looks good and click Done.

Step 10: Done

  • Close the Preferences window. You should now see your new email account listed in the Apple Mail sidebar.
